Players can unlock Mega Pidgeot by completing Mega Raids.
Trainers, Pokemon Go was recently updated with a Mega Evolution feature, which allows you to temporarily evolve certain Pokemon beyond their final evolution in order to make them stronger. You can learn more about this feature in our guide.
When Mega Evolution launched in Pokemon Go, Niantic, the game’s developer, told players that a Mega Evolution-themed event would take place during the month of September. Now, we know more details about how this event will work.
Week One of the “Mega September” event will run from September 1 at 8 a.m. until September 7 at 10 p.m. local time.
During that time, Abra, Magnemite, Exeggcute, Rhyhorn, Tangela, Electabuzz, Omanyte, Aerodactyl, Murkrow, Treecko, Torchic, Lotad, and Roselia will appear more frequently than normal in the wild. Plus, there’s the chance you may encounter Shiny Lotad (this Pokemon was already available in the game).
In addition, there will be more Mega Raids available to complete than normal during this time, and, according to a Pokemon Go news post, the game will have “an increased attack bonus from friends in raids.”
Elsewhere, you’ll be able to complete special “raid-related” Field Research tasks during Week One, and some of these tasks will reward you with Mega Energy for Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.
Finally, if players around the world complete at least two million Mega Raids during this event, Mega Pidgeot will begin appearing in Mega Raids.
