The game will still be supported on older systems.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X are both expected to be released during the 2020 holiday season. In recent weeks, we’ve learned lots of information about these consoles and the games we’ll be able to play on them, and that news will only keep coming as we get closer to the launch of both systems.

Take today’s news as an example. Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, announced that Fortnite will be available to play on PS5 and Xbox Series X when both consoles launch. This won’t be a new Fortnite game — it will be the same Fortnite players already know. However, in a blog post, Epic said the game will be “optimized to take advantage of the new hardware and features on next-gen consoles.”

In that same blog post, Epic answered some questions that players might have related to the release of Fortnite on PS5 and Xbox One.

For one, the company said players will be able to carry over all of their in-game progress and items to the next-gen version of the game, rather than being required to start from scratch. In addition, Epic said it “intend[s] to support cross-play across all platforms, including current and next-generation consoles.” This means you’ll be able to play with and against people on different systems.

Finally, Epic said it will continue supporting Fortnite on current systems even after PS5 and Xbox Series X debut. This means families won’t be required to buy a new console to keep enjoying Fortnite the way they already do.

Epic said more information about the next-gen version of Fortnite will be released in the future. Keep checking back with SuperParent, as we’ll bring you more details about the game as they’re released.

Fortnite recently debuted a new mode, Party Royale, via an in-game event featuring Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki, and deadmau5. The game is currently in Chapter 2 – Season 2 of its in-game content, with Season 3 expected to launch on June 4.
