There's a new way to play some classic Zelda titles.
In the 1980s, Nintendo released a series of “Game & Watch” handheld devices that each featured a simple game and a clock.
Then, in 2020, Nintendo released a new, modern take on one of these old Game & Watch handhelds to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the release of the first Super Mario Bros. video game. The Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. handheld included three games: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, and a Mario-version of the Game & Watch game “Ball.”
Now, Nintendo has revealed another modern Game & Watch system, with this one being inspired by The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda will include three classic games from the the Zelda series — The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and the Game Boy version of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening — as well as a Zelda-themed version of the Game & Watch game “Vermin,” which will have Link as the playable character.
In addition to these games, the Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda handheld will feature a “playable” digital clock inspired by the original The Legend of Zelda video game and a playable timer inspired by Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda will be released on November 12 for $49.99. The system’s games have been rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.
