This year's challenge features content from Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Roblox, the free social game creation platform that’s played by millions of kids each month, announced updates to its Roblox Education initiative, which launched last year. Roblox Education was created to help kids “learn technical and entrepreneurial skills” as they create their own games and activities on Roblox’s platform.
Roblox Education offers free content for teachers and educators who wish to create learning plans that revolve around Roblox Studio, the platform’s development tool. To start, Roblox Education offered just 12 hours of tutorials, but this has been increased to more than 60 hours of free content. Roblox said its education initiatives reached over 650,000 students around the world in 2018. It expects that number to more than double in 2019.
In addition, this summer, Roblox is hosting its third Creator Challenge, which helps kids learn to create content on the Roblox platform. This year’s challenge is called “Create and Destroy,” and it’s inspired by the film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. (Last year’s challenge focused on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.)
The Roblox blog provided more details about this year’s challenge:
“Take part in the challenge now to learn how to create your own round-based multiplayer game and unlock exclusive rewards along the way. You can dive right into the template on Roblox Studio and follow along with our step-by-step tutorials, or better yet, go at your own pace and customize the game to your liking. Adopting the same strategies professional level designers use, you’ll learn how to make your map feel fun and balanced, add props, edit scripts, create your own custom game icon, and much more. Then, once you put the finishing touches on your masterpiece, you can invite your friends to cause mayhem in your city! It’s the perfect way to learn new skills or practice things you’ve already learned.”
When kids complete this year’s challenge lessons, they’ll unlock new virtual items inspired by Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Kids can access the Creator Challenge on Roblox‘s website.
