Pokemon Go is kicking off the new year with a bang!
As we approach the end of 2021, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, has revealed some of the events and updates players can look forward to in Pokemon Go in January 2022.
Here’s a look at what we know so far.
From January 1 at 1 p.m. PT until February 1 at 1 p.m. PT, players will earn an encounter with Onix and Steelix Mega Energy each time they achieve a Research Breakthrough. As a reminder, players achieve a Research Breakthrough each time they complete at least one Field Research task on seven separate days (it doesn’t have to be seven days in a row).
Each Monday in January 2022, a 1 PokeCoin bundle will be added to the in-game shop that contains a Remote Raid Pass and other items. These bundles will cost a single PokeCoin, and players will only be able to purchase each weekly bundle once.
Here are the Pokemon that will appear in Tier-5 and Mega Raids in January 2022:

Each Wednesday in January from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time, a Raid Hour event will take place that features the Pokemon appearing in Tier-5 Raids at the time. During these Raid Hour events, more Raids will appear at Gyms than normal.
Each Tuesday in January, a Spotlight Hour event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time. Here are the Pokemon and in-game bonuses that will be featured during these events:
In addition to Pokemon Go Community Day on January 16, three other limited-time events will take place in January 2022. (You can learn more about January’s Pokemon Go Community Day event here.)
New Year’s Event – This event will take place from December 31, 2021 at 10 a.m. local time until January 4, 2022 at 8 p.m. local time. This event will feature costumed Pokemon and new avatar items.
Mountains of Power – This event will run from January 7 at 10 a.m. local time until January 13 at 8 p.m. local time. This event will be focused on the “Mysterious Door” storyline that’s part of the game’s Season of Heritage.
Kanto Power Plant Event – This event will run from January 19 at 10 a.m. local time until February 1 at 10 a.m. local time. It will focus on Electric- and Steel-themed Pokemon, and it will be inspired by the Kanto Power Plant location in the Pokemon universe.
Niantic will release more information about these limited-time events in the future. We’ll make sure to let you know when that happens, so keep checking back with us!
