SuperParent went hands-on with the Ecto-1 and two ghost figures.
Earlier this year, toy company Hasbro revealed three new toys inspired by The Real Ghostbusters animated series that debuted in the 1980s.
The Kenner Classics Ecto-1 vehicle, Bug-Eye Ghost figure, and Fearsome Flush figure were inspired by the original Kenner versions of these toys from the 1980s. With the “Kenner Classics” line, a new generation of Ghostbusters (and nostalgic adults) can live out some ghost-busting adventures without paying the premium prices the original toys go for on sites like eBay.
Hasbro sent SuperParent these three toys to check out.
The Kenner Classics Ecto-1 comes mostly pre-assembled and wrapped in tissue paper in a long cardboard box. It includes a sticker sheet with stickers for the license plates, Ghostbusters door logos, and back window of the vehicle.
You’ll also need to attach the chair to the Ecto-1. The chair can hold one of Hasbro’s other Kenner Classics Ghostbusters figures, which are sold separately (figures can also sit in the driver’s seat and passenger seat of the Ecto-1). The chair can quickly snap in place on the roof of the vehicle or behind the hatch at the rear of the Ecto-1. If you place the chair in the back of the vehicle, it fits into a fun slider that lets you move the chair forward and backward as you use your imagination to catch ghosts.
The Kenner Classics Ecto-1 also includes a retractable claw that can be used to “catch” the included ghost figure, which measures slightly less than two inches tall. If you place the claw in its “retrieval mode,” the claw will retract (pulling the ghost toward the vehicle) as the vehicle’s back wheels turn. You can switch the claw between retrieval and “free-wheeling mode” by moving the Ecto-1’s exhaust pipe left or right under the car (which is a clever design).
If you’re interested in displaying the Ecto-1 on a shelf, you should know it measures roughly 14 inches long, 5.5 inches wide, and 6 inches tall at its tallest point. If you add the chair on top, the height increases to roughly 8 inches tall, without a figure in the seat.
The Kenner Classics Ecto-1 is now available to pre-order on Walmart’s website for $39.97 ahead of its expected shipping date of August 3, 2021. The Ecto-1 has an age rating of 4+.
Meanwhile, the Bug-Eye Ghost and Fearsome Flush figures come packaged in plastic on large cardboard cards measuring roughly 8.5 inches across and 12 inches tall.
Outside of the plastic, the Bug-Eye Ghost figure measures roughly 6 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 3.5 inches tall. The Fearsome Flush Figure measures roughly 3 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 4 inches tall.
Both of these figures have an interactive element.
The cyclops eyeball on the Bug-Eye Ghost figure will pop out if you slap the figure on its back (the eyeball is still attached to the figure so it can’t be lost).
The Fearsome Flush figure, meanwhile, has moving lids for the toilet bowl and tank, which will automatically open and close as you roll the figure across a flat surface (it has wheels on the bottom). Each time the lids open, the ghost inside the toilet is revealed.
The Bug-Eye Ghost and Fearsome Flush figures are now available on Walmart’s website for $14.92 each. They both have an age rating of 4+. The Fearsome Flush figure is sold out as of this writing, but you can sign up to receive an alert when it comes back in stock.
