You can collect these pastel beauties by diving for scallops!
As part of the new swimming and diving update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can swim and dive in the ocean surrounding your island to find dozens of new sea creatures that you can keep, sell, or even donate to the museum.
One of these creatures is the scallop, and it plays a much larger role in the game than the other new critters added in this update.
The first time you collect a scallop each day, a friendly otter named Pascal will appear and ask if he can have it. If you agree, he’ll give you something in return, like a pearl or mermaid-themed item. You can see what that process looks like in our gameplay video below.
According to our friends at Prima Games, there are 18 different mermaid-themed items to collect in all (14 DIY recipes and four clothing items). If you want to collect them all, you’ll need to go diving on lots of different days, until Pascal eventually gives you everything you need (keep in mind, your in-game friends may also be able to help you out if they have items they don’t want).
The game’s 14 mermaid recipes require different quantities of pearls and seashells (among other items) to craft. Check out our guide to see the different ways you can collect pearls.

Mermaid Rug – 1 Pearl, 3 Sand Dollars
Mermaid Shelf – 1 Pearl, 1 Giant Clam, 4 Coral

In addition to these mermaid recipes, Pascal can also give you four mermaid-themed clothing items. According to Prima Games, these are the Mermaid Fishy Dress, Mermaid Princess Dress, Mermaid Tiara, and Mermaid Shoes.
