Original Story:

In April 2022, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, announced a few major changes that would be coming to Pokemon Go’s Mega Evolution feature. Now, Niantic has announced that these changes have gone live in the game. (You can learn more about these changes in our previous coverage).

To celebrate the arrival of these Mega Evolution changes, players who have reached at least Level 5 in Pokemon Go will receive a new Special Research storyline called “A Mega Moment.” The Pokemon Go website said this Special Research will have “branching tasks,” and will allow players to “[c]hoose Venusaur, Charizard or Blastoise…”

In addition, Niantic announced that a Mega Moment event will kick off in Pokemon Go on April 29.

The Mega Moment event will run from April 29, 2022 at 10 a.m. local time until May 1, 2022 at 8 p.m. local time.

During this event, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Slowpoke, Gastly, Mareep, Buneary, and Snover will appear more frequently than normal in the wild. Plus, Mega Kangaskhan will be available to challenge in Mega Raids, and there will be the chance to encounter Shiny Kangaskhan.

During the Mega Moment event, Mega-Evolved Pokemon will have boosted CP.

In addition, the Pokemon Go website said players will be able to complete event-themed Field Research tasks to earn “a random reward of Mega Energy…” Players will have the chance to receive Mega Energy for any Pokemon that’s currently able to Mega Evolve, except for Kangaskhan.

Finally, a Mega Kangaskhan Raid Day event will take place on May 1, 2022 from 11 a.m. local time to 2 p.m. local time. During this event, Mega Kangaskhan will appear more frequently in Mega Raids, and players will have an increased chance of finding Shiny Kangaskhan. Players will be able to collect up to five free Raid Passes by spinning the Photo Disc at Gyms during this event and/or during the two hours immediately following it.
