Catch certain Pokemon to receive rewards!

Near the end of 2020, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, announced that a new “Collection Challenges” feature would be added to the free-to-play mobile game in early January 2021.

While the developer didn’t provide many details about these Collection Challenges at the time, we now know much more.

The Collection Challenge feature will give players specific goals to complete during certain in-game events, beginning with the Unova Celebration event that kicks off on January 5. (Learn more about the 2021 Unova Celebration event in our previous coverage.)

This first Collection Challenge will ask players to catch a series of Pokemon from the Unova region of the Pokemon universe in order to receive rewards. Specifically, trainers will be challenged to catch Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Lillipup, Herdier, Roggenrola, Solosis, Ferroseed, and Blitzle.

If players successfully catch all nine Pokemon during this Unova Celebration event, they’ll receive Stardust, 25 Poke Balls, and 5 Rare Candy as rewards.

Following the Unova Celebration event, new Collection Challenges will be added to Pokemon Go as part of future events going forward. Each Collection Challenge will only be available to complete for a limited time. As you finish multiple Challenges across different events, you’ll earn the “Elite Collector” medal for your profile.

Finally, you’ll be able to see the Pokemon that are part of each Collection Challenge by checking out the game’s “Today” menu.
