Scrabble doesn't have to be a boring slog.
There are only so many times families can play a game like Monopoly or Scrabble before things start to get stale. It’s even harder to keep young kids’ attention when parents or siblings are strategizing their next move.
To spice things up, Fatherly created a list of 12 easy changes you can make to existing board games to make them more fun for the whole family. From turning off the buzzer in Operation to replacing Sorry’s pawns with Hershey’s Kisses, the options are pretty limitless with a little imagination.
Some of our favorite twists on the list are using a different body part to control the lever in a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos, and placing food on the dots in a game of Twister. For Twister specifically, Fatherly pointed out this would be a great way to get picky kids to eat new things, as they’d have to eat whatever was on the circle before being allowed to place their hand or foot there.
If you’re looking for even more ideas, consider letting your little ones create their own paper money for a game like Monopoly Jr. Or, swap out the regular six-sided die included in many board games for a 20-sided one, so players move around the board faster.
