Help Rudolph and his friends reach the Bumble's cave in this cute tabletop game.
Funko Games, the company behind tabletop games like Star Wars Rivals and Cranium Big Brain Detective Game, recently released Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Snowstorm Scramble, a cooperative tabletop game inspired by the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Rankin/Bass TV special from 1964.
We had the chance to check out Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Snowstorm Scramble.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Snowstorm Scramble is a cooperative memory-matching game for 1-5 players that challenges players to work together to help Rudolph, Hermey, and Yukon Cornelius make it to the Bumble’s cave before the Bumble can make it all of the way around the board. The game has a recommended age of 5+.
On each turn, the active player will roll a die and flip over the corresponding number of Snowstorm Tokens, which are placed face-down beside the game board. Each Snowstorm Token has a picture of Rudolph, Hermey, Yukon Cornelius, some of the Misfit Toys, or the Bumble on the back.
Depending on the pictures that were revealed, players may be able to move Rudolph, Hermey, and/or Yukon Cornelius forward on the game board. Each character has their own path that they’ll take to reach the Bumble’s cave, which is marked with pictures corresponding to the Snowstorm Tokens. Players will need to reveal the required Snowstorm Tokens in a specific order to move each character along its path.
For instance, the first step on Rudolph’s path requires players to reveal a Snowstorm Token with Rudolph’s picture. Other steps on each path may require multiple specific Snowstorm Tokens to be revealed at the same time.
Players will be challenged to memorize the locations of the different Snowstorm Tokens as they’re revealed in order to find them again when they’re needed on a future turn. However, once the characters pass the “Snowstorm” line on the game board, the Tokens must be scrambled, resetting their locations. Similarly, if the die lands on the Snowstorm icon, the Tokens must be mixed up.
Each time players reveal a Bumble Snowstorm Token, the Bumble will move one space around the outside of the game board. If players can move all three characters to the Bumble’s cave before the Bumble makes it around the entire board, the group wins the game. If not, the group will lose.
Each game of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Snowstorm Scramble has an expected play time of 20 minutes.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Snowstorm Scramble is a cute, fun game that even adults can enjoy. While the game is quite simple, the “Snowstorm” element, which causes the Snowstorm Tokens to be scrambled, adds more interest and challenge to the experience, since players will be required to memorize the locations of each Token multiple times in a single game.
At the same time, the game’s cooperative setup means younger players can enjoy the experience, since their teammates can help them remember where certain Tokens are if they have trouble remembering themselves.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Snowstorm Scramble is a simple game with a cute Snowstorm twist that adds a touch of challenge to the experience. If you’re looking for a fun family game to play this holiday season (and beyond), we recommend picking this one up.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Snowstorm Scramble is now available for $8.99.
