This feature is rolling out to players right now!
Earlier this year, The Pokemon Company announced that Pokemon Go support would be added to Pokemon Home before the end of 2020. Now, this functionality has officially started rolling out to players in Pokemon Go! (Pokemon Home allows players to store their Pokemon collection safely in the cloud, as well as transfer pocket monsters between various games in the Pokemon universe.)
As of this writing, only Level 40 players in Pokemon Go can transfer Pokemon from Go to Home, but this level will be lowered over time.
Before you can send a Pokemon from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Home, you’ll need to link your Pokemon Go account with the account you use to access Pokemon Home. We’ll bring you a full guide related to linking your accounts soon, but for now, you can learn more on the Pokemon Go support website.
Once your accounts are linked, you’ll be able to start sending Pokemon from Go to Home. Transferring a Pokemon requires “Transporter Energy.” The amount of energy required to send a Pokemon to Home will vary, depending on the pocket monster. As you spend Transporter Energy, you’ll automatically regain more over time, and you’ll also have the option to spend PokeCoins to instantly refill your energy.
It’s important to note that certain Pokemon can’t be transferred out of Pokemon Go. This includes Spinda, costumed Pokemon, Shadow Pokemon, and Mega-Evolved Pokemon. You also can’t transfer a Pokemon that you currently have “favorited,” or the Pokemon that is currently your Buddy.
In addition, while Lucky and Purified Pokemon can be transferred from Go to Home, they will lose their “Lucky” and “Purified” statuses in the process.
Plus, certain Pokemon will change form when transferred from Go to Home. Specifically, if you transfer Origin Forme Giratina, it will become Altered Forme Giratina; if you transfer Sunshine Form Cherrim, it will become Overcast Form Cherrim; if you transfer Sunny, Rainy or Snowy Form Castform, they will all become “Normal” Castform in Pokemon Home.
Finally, it’s important to keep in mind that Pokemon can only be transferred from Pokemon Go into Pokemon Home. You can’t transfer Pokemon from Pokemon Home into Pokemon Go.
The first time you transfer a Pokemon from Go to Home, you’ll be able to collect a Mystery Box in the Pokemon Home mobile app that contains a Melmetal with the ability to Gigantamax in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
In addition, if you’ve yet to collect a Mystery Box in Pokemon Go (this was previously available — and is still available — to players after they sent a Pokemon from Go to either Let’s Go, Pikachu or Let’s Go, Eevee), you’ll receive one after you send a Pokemon from Go to Home. You can open the Mystery Box to cause Meltan to appear in Pokemon Go for a limited time.
Once you open the Mystery Box in Pokemon Go, you’ll need to wait a certain amount of time and recharge it before you can open it again. Going forward, you’ll be able to recharge the Mystery Box by transferring a Pokemon from Pokemon Go into Home, Let’s Go, Pikachu, or Let’s Go Eevee.
