Here's new information about how the event will work.
The Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event will be here before you know it!
Starting on February 20 at 9 a.m. local time, ticket holders for this premium event will be able to collect the first 150 Pokemon from the Kanto region of the Pokemon universe to receive a variety of rewards. This premium event will allow players to choose from two ticket versions — Red and Green — which will allow them to encounter different Pokemon based on their selection.

While we already know quite a few details about this event, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, has now provided even more. Let’s get started!
First, the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event will feature a Special Research storyline that will focus on Pokemon from the Kanto region. When players finish this Special Research, they’ll receive an encounter with Shiny Ditto!
Next, players will be able to complete 10 different Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto Collection Challenges. While the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event will technically only run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time on February 20, players will have until February 28 at 7:59 p.m. local time to complete these 10 Collection Challenges.
All 10 Challenges will be themed. Five of them will be based on the way you can encounter the Pokemon required to complete them:
The other five Collections will be inspired by locations from Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green, the first games in the Pokemon series:
In a news post, Niantic said Pokemon hatched from Eggs and Shadow Pokemon collected from Team Go Rocket will not count toward these Collection Challenges.
The Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event will also be broken down into different hourly blocks on February 20. Each hourly block will correspond to one of the five locations listed above (Pallet Town, Pewter City, etc.), with Pokemon from each location-themed Collection Challenge being available in the wild during its associated hourly block. For instance, during Pallet Town hours, players will be able to encounter Pokemon required for the Pallet Town Collection Challenge in the wild, and so on.
If you miss any of these blocks throughout the day, the last two hours of the event will feature Pokemon from all of the previous blocks.
Niantic shared the full schedule in its news post so you can prepare:
- “9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.: Pallet Town
- 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.: Pewter City
- 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: Cerulean City
- 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Fuchsia City
- 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Pokémon League
- 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Pallet Town
- 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Pewter City
- 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Cerulean City
- 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Fuchsia City
- 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.: Pokémon League
- 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.: Pokémon from all previous hours”
These hourly blocks will also feature some familiar music for fans of the original Pokemon games. In its news post, Niantic explained:
“Each hour will feature music inspired by the original game, curated by none other than Pokémon’s original soundtrack composer, Junichi Masuda! Don’t forget to turn up your audio to relive the magic of the original games.”
Finally, once players finish the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto Special Research storyline, they’ll unlock an entirely new type of Research called “Masterwork Research.” In its news post, Niantic said Masterwork Research tasks “will take determination and skill to complete.”
Niantic also offered a preview of some of the Masterwork Research tasks we’ll receive: Earn the Platinum Kanto medal (you’ll need to collect all 151 Pokemon from the Kanto region to receive this medal), reach Level 40, catch 30 Pokemon of each type, spin 151 unique PokeStops, and walk 151 km. Again, these aren’t all of the Masterwork Research tasks that will be available to complete.
When players complete this Masterwork Research, they’ll receive an encounter with Shiny Mew!
