A fun new event is coming in May!
Update (04/27/2021): Niantic has updated the timing for the Fairy-type Pokemon collection portion of this event. The worldwide community of players will be challenged to capture 500 million Fairy-type Pokemon between 5 p.m. PT on April 30 and 4:59 p.m. PT on May 9 to unlock the extra bonuses for this event.
Original Story:
Trainers, a major new event is coming to Pokemon Go at the beginning of May 2021.
The Luminous Legends X event will run from May 4 at 10 a.m. local time until May 17 at 8 p.m. local time.
During this event, Dragon- and Fairy-type Pokemon will appear more frequently than normal in the wild. This includes Pokemon like Dratini, Ralts, Bagon, and Cottonee, among others.
In addition, Spritzee, Swirlix, and Goomy will make their in-game debut during this event. Spritzee and Swirlix will appear more frequently than normal in the wild during this event. Goomy will also appear in the wild, though, in a news post, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, indicated that it will be rare.
During the Luminous Legends X event, Psychic-, Dragon-, and Fairy-type Pokemon (such as Galarian Ponyta and Alolan Exeggutor) will appear in Raids. The Legendary Pokemon Xerneas will also make its in-game debut during this event, and it will appear in Tier-5 Raids.
Elsewhere, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Azurill, Gible, Swirlix, and Spritzee will have the chance to hatch from 7 km Eggs that are collected during this event. Players will also be able to complete event-themed Field Research tasks to receive encounters with Psychic-, Dragon-, and Fairy-type Pokemon like Galarian Ponyta, Gible, Spritzee, and Swirlix.
Next, players will be able to complete event-themed AR Mapping tasks to earn encounters with Galarian Ponyta.
At the beginning of the Luminous Legends X event, a new type of Lure Module will be added to Pokemon Go. You’ll be able to activate the new Rainy Lure Module on a PokeStop to attract Water-, Bug-, and Electric-type Pokemon to the location for a limited time. Plus, when you’re within range of an active Rainy Lure Module, you’ll be able to evolve Sliggoo into Goodra. (You’ll also be able to evolve Sliggoo when Pokemon Go’s in-game weather is rainy.)
This event will feature Timed Research tasks that players can complete to receive encounters with Fairy-type Pokemon like Spritzee and Swirlix, as well as a Rainy Lure module and other rewards.
Finally, if you evolve a Dragonair into Dragonite during this event, or use a Charged TM on a Dragonite, it will learn the move Draco Meteor. If you evolve Shelgon into Salamence or use a Charged TM on Salamence during this event, it will learn the move Outrage.
In addition to all of these event features, players will be challenged to work together to catch a required number of Fairy-type Pokemon in order to unlock more in-game bonuses. Specifically, players worldwide will need to catch a total of 500 million Fairy-type Pokemon between May 4 at 10 a.m. local time and May 11 at 8 p.m. local time. If this goal is reached, three extra bonuses will be added to this event from May 11 at 10 a.m. local time until May 17 at 8 p.m. local time.
Following this Luminous Legends X event, a Luminous Legends Y event will take place in Pokemon Go. While Niantic hasn’t revealed many details about this event, we do know that it will feature the Legendary Pokemon Yveltal. Plus, it will give players the chance to hatch Pancham from Strange Eggs.
