Pokemon Go: How to Fix the ARCore Update Bug

Monday, September 14th, 2020 9:03 am

There's a workaround until Niantic officially fixes the issue.

Trainers, a new bug is affecting some Pokemon Go players who use Android devices.

When playing Pokemon Go, affected players will see a pop-up called “ARCore Update,” which tells them that “AR+ requires an updated AR Core.” However, this message is appearing even if everything on the user’s device is currently up to date.

On the Niantic Support Twitter account, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, said it is “looking into” reports related to this issue. In the meantime, it offered this workaround for players who are affected:

“- Go to your device settings

– Select ‘Google Play Services for AR’ under apps

– Disable”

To be especially clear, to complete this workaround, you’ll need to leave the Pokemon Go app and open your device’s settings menu – not the Pokemon Go settings menu. From there, complete the steps Niantic provided to disable this feature, which should cause the pop-up to stop appearing in your game.

Once Niantic fixes this problem, you should be able to re-activate the feature and get back to playing Pokemon Go as normal.

We’ll make sure to update this space if and when Niantic releases any more information about this issue, so keep checking back with us!
