Instead of handing over your credit card to your kid, you can now buy cards in-store to add V-Bucks to their account.
While Fortnite is free-to-play, players can purchase items (like each season’s Battle Pass and premium cosmetic items) using V-Bucks, the game’s premium currency. Players can easily purchase their own V-Bucks for their personal account, but buying V-Bucks as a gift isn’t as simple.
That will change “[o]ver the next few weeks,” as Fortnite’s developer, Epic, announced that V-Bucks cards will soon be available to purchase at “select US retailers,” both online and in brick-and-mortar stores.
The cards will come in multiple denominations, with at least four being available:
Each V-Bucks card can be redeemed by going to Fortnite’s website. You can then use the V-Bucks on any platform where Fortnite is available (PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, iPhone, iPad, and Android).
In the future, V-Bucks cards will be available in Mexico, Canada, and Germany, and they’ll launch in even more areas down the line. Head to Fortnite’s website to learn more about these cards.
This is an incredibly smart decision on Epic’s part, as it makes it easier for people to buy V-Bucks for a Fortnite fan as a gift, and even for younger players to purchase their own V-Bucks using their own money. Parents, keep these cards in mind as we head into the holiday shopping season!
