The family-friendly shooter will be available to purchase in March.
Square Enix announced the release date for Foamstars, its “foam party shooter” for PlayStation consoles.
Foamstars is a family-friendly shooter that allows players to shoot foam around the environment, rather than bullets. The game will feature a variety of customizable playable characters and was designed to be played by players of all skill levels.
Foamstars will feature multiple gameplay modes that will allow players to test their skills on their own, compete in four-vs-four battles, and play with their friends in cooperative Squads for up to four players. For instance, the “Rubber Duck Party” mode will challenge teams to take control of a rubber duck with the goal of guiding the duck toward the opposing team’s goal to win.
Following the game’s launch, Foamstars will receive seasonal content updates for one year. Each season will give players the chance to unlock new in-game content, such as playable characters and game modes.
Players will have the option to purchase a Premium Season Pass during each season for $5.99. When players purchase the Premium Season Pass, they’ll instantly receive any Season Pass characters that are available for that season, and they’ll also be able to earn extra cosmetic items.
In addition to in-game seasons, Foamstars will also feature a Challenges system that allows players to unlock additional in-game content for completing specific tasks.
Foamstars will be released on February 6, 2024 as part of February’s PlayStation Plus monthly lineup. This will allow PlayStation Plus subscribers to claim and play the game without purchasing it as long as they have a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Following its debut on PlayStation Plus, Foamstars will be available to purchase on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on March 5, 2024 for $29.99. Players will need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play the game. You can learn more about PlayStation Plus in our guide to the service.
Foamstars is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
