As players make their way through Disney Dreamlight Valley, they’ll come across large mushrooms that they can’t remove unless they upgrade one of their tools.
There are two varieties of large mushrooms, with one being smaller than the other. In order to remove both varieties of large mushrooms from the ground, players will need to upgrade their Watering Can two times. The first time players upgrade their Watering Can, they’ll be able to remove the smaller variety of large mushrooms. After players upgrade their Watering Can for a second time, they’ll be able to remove the larger variety.

In order to begin upgrading your Watering Can, you’ll need to reach Friendship Level 8 with Merlin. When you reach Friendship Level 8 with Merlin, he’ll give you a quest called “A Dark Experiment.”
The “A Dark Experiment” quest will ask you to collect three materials:
Mushrooms can be found on the ground in the Glade of Trust, while Emeralds can be mined out of the tall black rocks in the Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust areas. Finally, a single Purified Night Shard can be crafted using 5 Night Shards and 1 Dream Shard. This means you’ll need 15 Night Shards and three Dream Shards to create the three Purified Night Shards.
Once you have these items, you can bring them to Merlin, who will upgrade your Watering Can so that you can remove the smaller variety of large mushrooms from the village.
In order to remove the larger variety of large mushrooms from the village, you’ll need to reach Friendship Level 10 with Merlin. You’ll also need to have Wall-E living in Dreamlight Valley. Once you’ve fulfilled these requirements, Merlin will give you the quest called “The Final Trial.”
This quest starts by asking you to craft five Purified Night Shards.
Once you craft these Purified Night Shards, you can take them to Wall-E to have them crushed into Night Shard Powder.
After you collect the Night Shard Powder, you can talk to Merlin, who will give you the “Magic Weed Removal” book.
You’ll need to collect a few more items to complete this quest:
You can collect the Falling Water near the end of the river in the Glade of Trust (this river goes over a waterfall).
As reported by Nintendo Smash, you can collect the Ice Heart by planting the Ice Heart Seed in your inventory in the Frosted Heights area.
Finally, you can collect the Mushrooms by finding them on the ground in the Glade of Trust area or by using your Watering Can on the smaller variety of large mushrooms that can be found throughout Dreamlight Valley. Each time you remove one of these large mushrooms, you’ll receive a Mushroom ingredient.
Once you’ve collected the required items, you can craft the Royal Watering Can Upgrading Ointment for your Watering Can. Once you craft the Royal Watering Can Upgrading Ointment, you can speak to Merlin who will upgrade your Watering Can for the second time. Now, you’ll be able to clear the larger variety of large mushrooms that are found throughout Dreamlight Valley!
