A New Pokemon Direct Is Coming This Week
What will the Direct be about? Here are some ideas.
In November 2019, Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield launched on Nintendo Switch, giving trainers young and old the chance to explore a new area of the Pokemon universe -- the Galar region -- and capture lots of new and familiar pocket monsters on their quest to become the region’s Pokemon Champion.
If you’ve already completed your journey through the Galar region, you now have something else to look forward to in the Pokemon universe: a Pokemon Direct will be released on January 9 at 6:30 a.m. PT, containing “roughly 20 minutes” of new information related to the world of Pokemon.
But what will this information be about? That’s anyone’s guess, though we can make some educated predictions.
Back in May 2019, The Pokemon Company revealed a few projects that are currently in the works: Pokemon Home, Pokemon Sleep, and a new Detective Pikachu game for Switch.
Pokemon Home is the follow-up to Pokemon Bank, and will allow players to move Pokemon from various Pokemon games into a single location for safe storage in the cloud. When it was announced, we learned that Pokemon Home was expected to come to Switch, iOS, and Android devices in “early 2020,” so it would make sense if this Pokemon Direct featured information about the service.
Next, Pokemon Sleep is a mobile application that will work alongside a new device called the Pokemon Go Plus+ to track the time a player spends sleeping, and the time they wake up, and use that data to affect their gameplay. Pokemon Sleep is also expected to be released in 2020, so we may learn more about it this week as well.
Finally, the new Detective Pikachu game will be a sequel to the original Detective Pikachu, which was released on 3DS in 2018 in North America. We know very little about the Switch game so far, so could this Direct include information about it? We certainly hope so.
While the Direct could include information about all three of these projects (or none of them), it could also contain details about projects we’ve never even heard of, and that’s what makes it so exciting.
Keep checking back with SuperParent, as we’ll let you know what’s announced during the Pokemon Direct on January 9.
