Overwatch 2 Will Have New Heroes, Story Missions, and More
Here's what you need to know about the upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter.
Overwatch 2 is the follow-up to the original Overwatch, which was released by Blizzard in 2016. The sequel will offer many familiar elements for fans of the first game, while also including lots of new features, such as new heroes.
In Overwatch 2, players will be able to compete in team-vs-team multiplayer matches, just like in the original game. A new map type will be available, called “Push,” which will challenge both teams to take control of a robot and push it toward the other team’s base.
The game will also feature maps based on a variety of real-world locations, such as Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, and Gothenburg, Sweden.
In addition to team-vs-team matches, players can work together to complete a variety of cooperative missions, including four-player story missions and “replayable hero missions.” According to the game’s website, you’ll be able to “[l]evel up your favorite heroes and earn powerful customization options to help beat the odds.”
If you’ve played the original Overwatch, you won’t have to worry about losing all of your cosmetic items when moving over to the new game, as your sprays, emotes, skins, player icons, and more will carry over to Overwatch 2.
Finally, Blizzard will give Overwatch and Overwatch 2 players the ability to play together. The game’s website says:
“Current Overwatch players will battle side-by-side with Overwatch 2 players in PvP multiplayer; they’ll also be able to play Overwatch 2 heroes and maps.”
While Overwatch 2 hasn’t been rated by the ESRB just yet, the original Overwatch was rated T, so the sequel may receive the same rating (though that isn’t guaranteed).
