Pokemon Go Spreads Holiday Cheer With In-Game Events

The festivities kick off December 18.

Deck the halls with Poke Balls and Candy! The holidays are here, and Pokemon Go is celebrating in a big way with multiple limited time events that send 2018 out in style.

Starting December 18, Ice-type Pokemon (like Jynx, Sneasel, Swinub, Snorunt, Spheal, and Snover) will appear more frequently in the wild as trainers play. The Pokemon Delibird will also return to the game for this holiday season.

In addition, Pikachu wearing festive hats will appear once more this year, so keep an eye out for these critters who will be available in the wild until January 2.

One of the most exciting parts of this event, players will receive a free single-use Incubator each day they spin a Photo Disc at a PokeStop until January 2. Along with this, Pokemon such as Smoochum, Azurill, and Munchlax will have a greater chance of appearing in 7km eggs -- the ones players can receive in Gifts sent by friends.

Finally, various limited time bonuses will be active throughout this event, allowing players to earn extra Pokemon Candy, Stardust, and more. Here’s a breakdown of when these bonuses will be active:

  • From December 18 to December 22 - Earn double Pokemon Candy when capturing and transferring Pokemon
  • From December 22 to December 26 - Earn double Stardust when capturing Pokemon
  • From December 26 to December 30 - Earn double experience points when capturing Pokemon
  • From December 30 to January 2 - Incubators will hatch Eggs in half the normal walking distance (if this is like other events, an Egg will need to be placed inside an incubator during this limited time window for the effect to trigger)

If you want your in-game avatar to dress the part during this festive holiday celebration, check out the Delibird-themed sweater, gloves, and boots that will be added to the in-game store on December 18.

Happy holidays!
