Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet: Explore Paldea, Compete in Tera Raid Battles, and More
New details were revealed about the upcoming 'Pokemon' games.
In a recent video presentation, The Pokemon Company revealed new details about Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, the next games in the main series of Pokemon video games.
Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet will take players to the Paldea region of the Pokemon universe, where they’ll join an academy and embark on a “Treasure Hunt.”
The game will feature three stories to complete. One will focus on the traditional Gym Challenge seen in other Pokemon games. It will allow players to battle against Gym leaders across the Paldea region with the goal of becoming the region’s Champion.
Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet will be open world role-playing games (RPGs), meaning players will be able to freely explore the in-game environment and complete Gym battles in any order.
Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet will introduce players to the Terastal Phenomenon, which is only found in the Paldea region. This phenomenon causes Pokemon to temporarily transform during battle and appear as though they’re made of cut gemstones.
Each Pokemon in the Paldea region can “Terastallize” into this gem form, and when a Pokemon “Terastallizes,” it may change type, depending on its “Tera Type.” The games will feature 18 different Tera Types.
Players will be able to compete against "Tera" Pokemon with up to three other players in Tera Raid Battles. When players defeat a Tera Pokemon in a Tera Raid Battle, they'll have the chance to capture the Pokemon.
Players will also be able to explore the in-game world with up to three real players through real-time multiplayer gameplay.
Elsewhere, The Pokemon Company revealed some of the new Pokemon players will be able to encounter in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. This includes the Fairy-type Puppy Pokemon Fidough, the Ice-type Terra Whale Pokemon Cetitan, and Paldean Wooper, the Poison- and Ground-type version of Wooper that’s only found in the Paldea region.
Finally, The Pokemon Company revealed new details about Koraidon and Miraidon, the Legendary Pokemon that will be featured in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, respectively. Players will be able to ride these Pokemon around the in-game world. Each Legendary Pokemon will be able to “drive” across land, swim through water, and glide through the air.
Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet will be released on Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022 for $59.99 each. A special Double Pack will also be available to purchase for $119.99. It will include both games in a single package. If players purchase this Double Pack, they’ll receive two codes that they can redeem to receive 100 Poke Balls in each game (there will be one code per game).
If players download the digital version of Pokemon Scarlet and/or Pokemon Violet before February 28, 2023, they’ll receive a code they can redeem for an “Adventure Set” containing 10 Potions, five Full Heals, three Revives, three Ether, one Rare Candy, and one Rare Nugget in the game they’re playing.
In addition, if players play Pokemon Scarlet and/or Pokemon Violet before February 28, 2023, they’ll be able to receive a special Pikachu as a free in-game reward through the games’ Mystery Gift feature. This Pikachu will have the Flying Tera Type and know the move “Fly.” This Pikachu will be available to all players. That is, it will be available to players who are playing the physical version of either game, and it will also be available to players who have downloaded the digital version of either game from the Nintendo eShop.
