Players can collect a free item from the game's Mystery Gift menu.

While Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl already offered lots of content for players to experience, the games have now been updated with even more.
Specifically, players can now collect a free item called “Oak’s Letter” by using the Mystery Gift feature in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl. To collect this item, they’ll need to select the “Get via Internet” option on each game’s Mystery Gift menu.
Once players receive Oak’s Letter, they’ll be able to talk to Professor Oak on Route 224 to begin a quest that will allow them to encounter and capture the Mythical Pokemon Shaymin.
Shaymin has two formes, and players will be able to switch Shaymin into its Sky Forme using the Gracidea item.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl are available on Switch for $59.99 each. A Double Pack that includes both games is also available for $119.99. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl are rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.
