Students are encouraged to submit ideas for games based on specific themes.

Nonprofit Games for Change has announced its 2021-2022 G4C Student Challenge, a national video game design competition that allows middle and high schools students to submit ideas for video games that are focused on “social impact themes.”

According to a press release, the 2021-2022 G4C Student Challenge program has three themes:

  • "Voice of a New Generation: Games that propose solutions to make the process of voting more accessible and encourage young people to vote, in partnership with New Georgia Project.
  • Sustainable Cities: Games about solutions to the climate crisis and ways we can make our homes, schools, and communities more resilient and sustainable, in partnership with NRDC.
  • Shaping the World for Difference: Games that raise awareness about learning and thinking differences like ADHD and dyslexia and incorporate accessibility best practices so they can be enjoyed by everyone, in partnership with social impact non-profit Understood."

Students who enter the competition will have the chance to win a variety of prizes, including up to $10,000 in scholarships.

The Student Challenge program also encourages teachers to bring the program into their classrooms. The Games for Change website offers a free “G4C Intro to Game Design” curriculum, as well as other “game design tools and resources” for students.

Parents, students, and educators can learn more about the 2021-2022 G4C Student Challenge on the Games for Change website.
