Fortnite's New Rift-To-Go Lets Player Create Their Own Rifts
Players can also test their skills in a new limited time game mode.
Fortnite’s latest update is now available, which includes a game mode that will only be available for a limited time. Here’s what this new update contains, so you can stay in the know.
Fortnite: Battle Royale players can use a new item called a Rift-To-Go to open a rift on the map that they (as well as their allies and enemies) can jump through to be transported into the sky, allowing them to glide back down to the map below. Eurogamer reported that the rift only remains open for 10 seconds, so players need to jump in fast before the rift disappears.
Rifts have been an ongoing theme in Fortnite for a bit now, as a large rift appeared in the in-game sky prior to the launch of the game’s Season 5 content. Battle Royale players can also go through rifts located around the in-game map to be transported somewhere else.
This update also includes a new limited time mode called Score Royale. Gameplay in Fortnite: Battle Royale typically challenges players to be the last one standing in order to win a match. In Score Royale, the player who earns enough points to cross the “High Score threshold” picks up that sweet Victory Royale.
In each Score Royale match, players can earn points by collecting coins, taking out other players, opening loot containers, and by using an apple or mushroom.
Fortnite’s premium mode, Save the World, has also received an update. First, the mode has a new weapon, the Bundlebuss Assault Rifle. There’s also a new Horde Challenge for players to take on, which tasks them with defending their forts from 16 waves of enemies. If players complete the challenge, they’ll be able to choose from one of two legendary Flintlock weapons as their prize.
Fortnite’s Save the World mode is currently available to purchase for $39.99, but Epic has said the mode will become free-to-play sometime in 2018.
