TechCrunch to Help Young Women Get a Start in Tech at Disrupt SF 2018

Students aged 15-22 can apply to participate in the TC Include program.

TechCrunch, a news outlet focused on the business side of the technology industry, has partnered with #BUILTBYGIRLS to invite up to 200 young women aged 15-22 to Disrupt SF 2018, a conference for individuals and companies in tech. Disrupt SF 2018 takes place in San Francisco September 5-7.

The students will be part of the TC Include program, which TechCrunch said includes “an engaging day full of interactive programming.” These students will have a question and answer session with one of the conference’s speakers, and will be able to explore the conference and view some of the talks and workshops that are taking place.

Finally, a limited version of #BUILTBYGIRLS’ WAVE program (which connects young women with tech industry professionals) will allow these students to learn more about careers in tech.

Women hold far fewer jobs than males in STEM industries (science, technology, engineering, and math). According to the Economics & Statistics Administration (part of the U.S. Department of Commerce), as of 2015, women held only 24 percent of STEM jobs.

If your teen would be interested in attending Disrupt SF 2018, have them apply for the TC Include program here. While students don’t need to be women to apply, the application website says “preference will be given to female and non-binary students 15-22 years of age.”
