Pokemon Go February 23 Spotlight Hour: Everything You Need to Know
Trainers, Pokemon Go’s final Spotlight Hour in February 2021 will take place on February 23 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
During this one-hour event, Pikachu will appear more frequently than normal in the wild, and you’ll receive two times the normal number of Pokemon Candy when catching Pokemon. This Pokemon Candy bonus will apply to every Pokemon you catch during this Spotlight Hour event, and not just Pikachu.
This isn’t the first time Pikachu has been featured in a Spotlight Hour event, but this week’s festivities are unique since this Spotlight Hour is taking place during Pokemon Go's 2021 Kanto Celebration event.
During this Kanto Celebration, the Pikachu that are appearing in the wild know the move Surf, which was previously a Community Day exclusive move. Since this Spotlight Hour event is taking place during the Kanto Celebration, we can assume the Pikachu that will appear during the Spotlight Hour will know Surf as well. Once you add a Pikachu with Surf to your collection, keep this in mind: Pikachu will forget the move Surf if you evolve it into Raichu.
To make the most of this week’s event, remember to toss Pinap Berries at Pokemon before you catch them. This will allow you to earn even more Pokemon Candy for each Pokemon you capture. Plus, you can activate an Incense to attract wild Pokemon to your location for a limited time, giving you even more pocket monsters to catch.
Finally, remember that Pikachu can be Shiny. While you aren't guaranteed to find Shiny Pikachu during this Spotlight Hour, you will be able to check lots of Pikachu in a short amount of time.
