Sephiroth Comes to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on December 22
Players can complete the Sephiroth Challenge to unlock the fighter early.
Earlier this month, Nintendo revealed the next fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch: Sephiroth, the main villain from Final Fantasy VII.
At the time, we didn’t know when Sephiroth would be added to Ultimate -- only that he would be released before the end of 2020. Now, we know much more about this fighter and when he’ll be available.
Sephiroth will be released as part of the Challenger Pack 8 downloadable content (DLC) on December 22. This Challenger Pack includes Sephiroth, a new stage inspired by the Northern Cave area in Final Fantasy VII, and nine new songs (including “One-Winged Angel”).
While you can purchase Challenger Pack 8 on its own, the pack’s content is also available as part of the game’s Fighters Pass Vol. 2.
The Fighters Pass Vol. 2 is a collection of six fighters that you can purchase all at once for $29.99. So far, the collection includes Min-Min from ARMS, Steve and Alex from Minecraft, and Sephiroth. If you purchase the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 DLC now, you’ll receive the next three fighters (which have yet to be revealed) at no additional cost once they’re eventually released.
Even though Sephiroth won’t officially launch in Ultimate until December 22, players who own the Fighters Pass Vol. 2, as well as those who have pre-ordered Challenger Pack 8, can actually unlock Sephiroth early by completing the in-game “Sephiroth Challenge” boss battle on any difficulty level.
To be specific, if players complete the Sephiroth Challenge before December 22, they’ll unlock Sephiroth, the Northern Cave stage, and the nine music tracks at that time, without having to wait for the official release date.
