Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond: A SuperParent First Look

A side-scrolling platformer inspired by a Norwegian children's franchise.

Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond is a side-scrolling platformer for kids inspired by the Norwegian children’s franchise Captain Sabertooth.

Loosely inspired by the film of the same name, Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond takes players to a tropical world inhabited by pirates and a variety of dangerous creatures. Through a case of mistaken identity, Captain Sabertooth believes you have a legendary Magic Diamond, and after he discovers you don't have it, he forces you to help him track it down.

When you first begin the game, Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond allows you to choose from two playable characters: a young boy named Pinky and his friend Veronica. From there, you’ll run left and right across the screen while jumping on and over platforms, avoiding obstacles, breaking barrels, opening treasure chests, avoiding or defeating enemies, and more. You can attack enemies and break objects with a sword, and you also have a slingshot that allows you to shoot stones at switches, enemies, and so on.

When you take damage, you’ll lose a heart, but extra hearts can be found while playing (for instance, many enemies will drop them after they’re defeated). As you progress, you can find a number of collectibles and unlock a variety of upgrades for your character (like a permanent health boost).

In addition to this platforming gameplay, Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond includes a few mini-games, like one that asks you to fire a cannon at floating targets with the goal of earning the required number of points in a limited amount of time (each target is worth a different number of points).

Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond is now available on Switch and PC. The game is rated E10+ for Everyone 10+ by the ESRB.
