Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Expand Your Home Storage

Now you can collect even more things!

The Winter Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is officially here! This update prepares the game for the upcoming Turkey Day and Toy Day holidays, and it also adds the ability for players to expand their home’s storage capacity to 2,400 slots so they can store more items before running out of room. (To learn more about the Winter Update, check out our previous coverage.)

Here’s how to expand your home’s storage in New Horizons!

Before we begin, keep in mind that in order to expand your home’s storage, you need to have already expanded your home to its largest size, and paid off all of your debt to Tom Nook. Plus, you must pay for this storage expansion outright (you can’t take out a loan), so make sure you have 500,000 Bells in your inventory before starting this process.

When you’re ready to expand your home’s storage, head into the Resident Services building and sit at the chair in front of Tom Nook’s station.

Now choose “Expand my storage.”

Tom will tell you about the price of the expansion. If you’re ready to spend the 500,000 Bells to expand your home’s storage, choose “Yes, let’s do it!”

From there, Tom will take your Bells and begin the expansion process. Like other home expansions, your expanded storage won’t be available until the next in-game day.

And that’s all there is to it!

Depending on how long you’ve been playing New Horizons (and/or how much you’ve been saving Bells), it may take you some time to collect the 500,000 Bells needed for this storage expansion. That being the case, you may want to check out the ChargePlay Clutch from HyperX. It can extend your device’s battery life so you can play New Horizons (and other Switch games) for a longer period of time before having to charge your Switch. Head over to HyperX’s website to learn more about the ChargePlay Clutch and the company’s other Switch accessories.
