Pokemon Go Dragon Week Makeup Event: Everything You Need to Know

Players will be able to complete new Timed Research tasks.

During Pokemon Go Fest 2020, players worked together to complete a series of 32 global challenges. By completing these challenges, trainers unlocked three “Ultra Unlock” events that have been held throughout the month of August.

The first Ultra Unlock event -- Dragon Week -- was held from July 31 to August 7. During Dragon Week, players could complete a series of Timed Research tasks to earn two encounters with Deino, an encounter with Alolan Exeggutor, and other in-game rewards.

While these Timed Research tasks were supposed to be available to complete until the end of the Dragon Week event, they disappeared from the game earlier than intended, meaning some players didn’t have the full week to complete them.

In response, Niantic, the game’s developer, posted a workaround on Twitter that was meant to help players recover these tasks so they could finish them. The developer also extended the amount of time players had to complete the tasks until August 8. Even with these actions, some trainers still weren’t able to “recover” the tasks in their game so they could be completed.

Since Pokemon Go experienced these technical issues during Dragon Week, Niantic is holding a Dragon Week makeup event from August 21 at 8 a.m. local time until August 26 at 10 p.m. local time.

This makeup event will allow all trainers to complete a new set of Timed Research tasks that have the same rewards as the original Dragon Week tasks, but have “slightly different” things to do. This should mean we can expect to receive two Deino encounters, an Alolan Exeggutor encounter, and everything else that was originally given away as part of the Dragon Week tasks.

Here’s a major thing to keep in mind: This Dragon Week makeup event will only feature the new Timed Research tasks. The rest of the Dragon Week tweaks and bonuses -- such as increased appearances by Dragon-type Pokemon -- will not be active during this makeup event.

Were you able to finish all of the Timed Research tasks in the original Dragon Week event? Let us know on Twitter at @superparenthq.
