Pokemon Go in July 2020: Kyurem Raids, Shiny Larvitar, and More
Here are a few of the events we can look forward to in the month of July.
Trainers, it’s a new month, which means there are lots of new events to look forward to in Pokemon Go! Of course, the biggest event of the month will be Pokemon Go Fest 2020, which will take place on July 25 and July 26. But that’s not the only event and update coming to the game in July!
Here’s what you need to know.
July Research Breakthrough
From July 1 at 1 p.m. PT until August 1 at 1 p.m. PT, you’ll earn an encounter with Larvitar any time you achieve a Research Breakthrough, and there’s the chance this Pokemon may be Shiny! As a reminder, you’ll achieve a Research Breakthrough each time you turn in at least one Field Research task on seven separate days.
On July 7 at 1 p.m. PT, the Legendary Pokemon Kyurem will begin appearing in Tier-5 Raids. Following its debut, Kyurem will be the star of a special Raid Hour event every Wednesday for the duration of its time in Raids. These Raid Hour events will run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
Niantic, the game’s developer, didn’t say when Kyurem will leave these Tier-5 Raids, but judging by past similar events, we expect it will be around to challenge for a few weeks to a month.
Pokemon Spotlight Hours
A different Spotlight Hour event will take place each Tuesday during the month of July. These events will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time. Here’s the breakdown of these four events:
- July 7 - Taillow will appear more frequently in the wild, and you’ll receive twice the normal amount of Pokemon Candy when you transfer unwanted Pokemon to the professor.
- July 14 - Zubat will be the featured pocket monster, and you’ll earn two times the normal amount of experience points when you evolve Pokemon.
- July 21 - Oddish will be the star, and you’ll receive twice the normal amount of Stardust when you capture Pokemon.
- July 28 - Buizel will appear more frequently than normal, and you’ll receive twice the normal amount of experience points when catching Pokemon.
