Pokemon Sword and Shield Max Soup Guide

Here's how to give a Pokemon the ability to Gigantamax!

In the Isle of Armor expansion for Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, you can feed some of your Pokemon “Max Soup” in order to give them the ability to Gigantamax in future battles.

Only a limited number of Pokemon can eat Max Soup to learn this ability. Here’s the full list, as of this writing:

Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Rillaboom, Cinderace, Inteleon, Pikachu, Eevee, Butterfree, Meowth, Machamp, Gengar, Lapras, Snorlax, Garbodor, Drednaw, Corviknight, Toxtricity, Alcremie, Duraludon, Orbeetle, Coalossal, Sandaconda, Grimmsnarl, Flapple, Appletun, Hatterne, Cooperajah, Kingler, Centiskorch, and Urshifu.

Before you can feed a Pokemon some Max Soup, you’ll need to have at least three Max Mushrooms in your inventory to cook the dish. The only exception to this is if you want to give Urshifu the ability to Gigantamax. In this case, you’ll need three Max Mushrooms, as well as some Max Honey.

Once you have the necessary ingredients, head to the Dojo on the Isle of Armor and talk to the trainer in the kitchen.

He’ll ask if you want to give one of your Pokemon some Max Soup. Select “Yep!”

Now select the Pokemon you want to give the Max Soup to and choose “Select.”

The trainer will ask if you want to use your ingredients to make the Max Soup. Choose “Of course!”

From there, your Pokemon will automatically eat the Max Soup and gain the ability to Gigantamax!

Remember, you’ll need more ingredients each time you want to make Max Soup, since you can only serve one Pokemon with each batch of soup that you create. If you tell the trainer that you want to make Max Soup without having the necessary ingredients on hand, he’ll give you a tip related to finding more:

“If you have a Max Raid Battle, particles for Dynamax will scatter around all over the place, which helps Max Mushrooms grow in forests and caves on the Isle of Armor!”

Have fun!
