Nintendo and Walmart Team Up to Bring Free Summer Fun to Switch Fans Across the U.S.

The "Summer of Fun" tour will visit 100 Walmart stores.

If you’re looking for a fun, free activity for your kids this summer, Nintendo’s “Summer of Fun” tour will let you try out some of Nintendo Switch’s most popular games for free in one of 100 Walmart parking lots across the United States.

The tour will kick off on June 23 and end August 19. Each stop will let users try out games like Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Tennis Aces, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Families can take family pictures against photo backdrops inspired by the various in-game locations Mario visits in Super Mario Odyssey. Nintendo’s famous plumber will make appearances at certain stops on the tour for even more photo opportunities.

Finally, each event will let users enter the My Nintendo Summer of Fun sweepstakes for a chance to four round-trip tickets to any destination Southwest Airlines flies to. Even if you don’t win that grand prize, 100 runners-up will win a Nintendo Switch prize pack containing a Switch console, the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit, and three games: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, and Mario Tennis Aces. Can’t make it to an event? Enter the sweepstakes online, here.

Even if your family already owns a Nintendo Switch (or two), this Summer of Fun tour sounds like an absolute blast for all ages. In-store game demos can be magical experiences for kids, letting them see consoles and play games they may have only seen on TV or online. I remember playing Super Mario 64 on a Nintendo 64 at Target when I was a kid. If that brief encounter made a lasting impact on my young brain, the potential for making some lasting memories at these Summer of Fun events is through the roof.

To find the event nearest you, head to Nintendo’s website.
