Google Launches 2020 Change The Game Design Challenge for Teens

Teens can submit ideas for mobile games for a chance to join an online game development workshop.

Google announced that it is now accepting applications for its 2020 Change The Game Design Challenge. This yearly event invites teens to submit ideas for mobile games for a chance to be selected for a program that allows them to learn about game development.

Rather than bringing finalists to a real-world development or mentoring workshop, for 2020, the Change The Game program is digital only. Teens in the U.S. aged 13-18 can fill out an entry form describing their game idea for a chance to be selected for the program. Teens don’t need to have any previous game development experience to apply or be selected.

The teens who are selected will be able to participate in an online game development workshop hosted by Girls Make Games, an organization that aims to “increase gender diversity” in the video game industry. In a blog post, Google said the workshop will take place across four different sessions.

Google also said these teens will “receive custom swag, all course materials, a certificate of completion and a shiny new Chromebook to continue [their] game development journey.”

Google said it will be reviewing applications “on a rolling basis” between now and July 31, 2020. The workshops will begin in June and will continue until the end of the summer.

If your teens are interested in developing games, you can learn more about the 2020 Change The Game Design Challenge by visiting Google’s website.
