Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Remove Rocks

Make room for decorations and trees by removing rocks on your island.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you have the ability to create your very own island paradise by planting trees and flowers, displaying decorations, and more.

But what if you want to display a decoration, or plant some flowers, but a rock is in your way? Thankfully, you can move rocks out of the way by using fruit and a shovel. However, this isn’t the same process as moving a tree or flower.

When you move a tree or a flower, you actually pick the item up and can replant it somewhere else. When you remove a rock, it’s destroyed. However, as Polygon reported, when you destroy a rock, it will respawn on your island in a random location, so you’ll still be able to collect things like iron nuggets and stones later on.

If you want to remove a rock from your island, just follow these steps.

Before we begin, if you want to see this process in action, check out the video below. Or, keep reading to see the text version of our guide!

To remove a rock, you’ll first need to eat a piece of fruit.

When you eat a piece of fruit, a counter will appear in the top-left corner of the screen that reads “1/10.” This tells you that you have the strength to remove one rock (or uproot one tree). If you were to eat a second piece of fruit, the counter would increase to “2/10,” and so on.

From there, pull out your shovel and interact with the rock. It will be destroyed and you can feel free to place a decoration, tree, or flower in its spot.

And that’s all there is to it!
