Live your best life in this sequel to the classic board game.
Marmalade Game Studio and Hasbro have released The Game of Life 2 on iOS and Android devices. The premium mobile game is an official sequel to the original The Game of Life, and it features updated jobs, action cards, and more that bring the experience into the modern day.
If you’re familiar with the original Game of Life, the gameplay in this sequel is pretty similar. Your overall goal is to reach retirement with the most wealth possible. Unlike some board games, which focus on skill or beating every other player to the finish, The Game of Life 2 is more about “the luck of the spin.” It doesn’t matter who reaches retirement first — it only matters how much “wealth” (not just money) you’ve accumulated along the way.
Once you start the game, your first major decision will be whether or not to go to college or immediately head into the workforce. If you spend money to get a degree, you’ll have access to higher paying jobs, but you won’t be able to start earning money until you actually graduate.
From there, there are a few other major decisions you’ll have to make (whether or not to get married, whether or not to start a family, and so on), which can impact the kinds of rewards and milestones you may achieve as you make your way around the board. We emphasize “may,” since there’s no guarantee (for instance) that choosing to start a family will actually result in you having kids. It will depend on which spaces you land on as you play.
While this basic structure matches that of the original Game of Life, this sequel changes the game’s final win conditions. Specifically, instead of only focusing on money, you’ll be able to earn points by accumulating knowledge, happiness, and overall “wealth” as you play. These three elements will give you a higher score at the end of the game.
In addition, the game’s careers and “action” cards (which give you a choice between two options) have been updated with modern topics. For instance, you can become a video blogger, watch video game streams, and more, with many of these actions allowing you to earn knowledge, happiness, and wealth — not just money.
The Game of Life 2 features multiple gameplay modes. You can compete on your own against the computer, compete against both strangers and friends online, and play with others in the same room by passing a single device from one player to the next. As you play, you can complete in-game achievements that reward you with prizes, such as outfits for your in-game “peg” (playing piece).
The Game of Life 2 is available to download for $3.99 on iOS and Android devices. It’s rated 4+ on iOS and E for Everyone on Android. While the game doesn’t contain advertisements or traditional microtransactions (you can play forever without spending more money), you do have the option to spend money on additional gameplay themes, like a Fairytale Kingdom theme.
