This Pokemon has a unique evolutionary requirement.
While many pocket monsters in Pokemon Go can be evolved by simply collecting the required number of Pokemon Candy, there are a quite a few Pokemon that evolve in a different way, or have a special requirement that needs to be met before they can be evolved. For instance, you need to walk 20 km with Feebas as your Buddy before being able to evolve it into Milotic.
There are even Pokemon that will only evolve if they’re a particular gender. One of these pocket monsters is Combee.
Combee and its evolution, Vespiquen, are inspired by real-life honey bee colonies. While Combee can be found in both genders, Vespiquen is only ever female, making it similar to the “queen bee” in a honey bee colony.
Since Vespiquen can only ever be a female Pokemon, that means it can only be evolved from female Combee.
Check out the two screenshots below. The screenshot on the left features a male Combee, which can’t be evolved (the option to evolve it simply isn’t there). The screenshot on the right contains a female Combee, and as you can see, it can be evolved into Vespiquen using 50 Combee Candy.
And that’s really all there is to it! When you want to add a Vespiquen to your collection in Pokemon Go, you’ll need to track down a female Combee and ensure you have enough Candy to evolve it.
Here’s one final thing to keep in mind: When looking at a Combee in the wild, you can determine its gender by looking for a red/orange area on the bottom face’s forehead. If the red/orange area is there, the Combee is female (and vice versa).
