Hit the track with characters from 'Shrek' and more.
GameMill Entertainment recently released DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing on consoles and PC. The kart-racing game features characters from multiple DreamWorks Animation film series, including Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon, among others.
DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing supports single-player gameplay, multiplayer gameplay for up to four people in the same room, and online multiplayer.
Players start with 10 different racers to choose from, like Puss in Boots from the Shrek series and Hiccup from the How to Train Your Dragon series, and they can unlock more racers over time. Each racer has its own stats for things like “Speed,” “Turbo,” and “Handling,” among others.
Players can also choose from different chassis, engines, wheels, and spoilers for their kart, which will also impact their overall stats during races. While players begin the game with a limited number of these parts to choose from, they can unlock more over time.
DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing allows players to compete in multiple event types, including cups, free races, challenge events, and time trials. Each cup features four races to complete one right after the other, while challenge events will ask players to complete certain actions during races. For instance, one challenge event will ask players to complete a race before time runs out (in this case, players can drive through clocks to give themselves more time).
The game has four “race speed” levels to choose from, ranging from “Relaxed” to “Lightning.”
During races, players are challenged to watch out for obstacles and gaps in the road as they drive, and they can pick up music notes to cause Trolls characters to hop onto their kart for a ride. As players continue to collect music notes, these Trolls will give them access to special boosts.
In addition, players can drift around corners and drive over special pads to give themselves a temporary speed boost during races. Players can also jump off of ramps and platforms to perform tricks, as well as drive through special icons to reveal hidden “magic path” shortcuts that may help them beat their competition during a race.
Finally, players can drive through item boxes scattered through each track, which contain items they can use to give themselves an advantage or mess with their opponents.
DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing is now available for $39.99 on Switch, PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, and PC. A Digital Deluxe Edition of the game is also available for $49.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game of DreamWorks All Star-Kart Racing, as well as two additional playable characters and two more kart chassis.
If players purchase the base game of DreamWorks All-Stars Kart Racing for $39.99, they’ll have the option to purchase the game’s “Rally Pack” downloadable content (DLC) for $14.99 to access the characters and chassis included in the Digital Deluxe Edition.
DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.
