Remember the infamous blue or gold dress? This is the audio follow-up that's just as confusing.
Do you remember “the dress?” That was the 2015 viral internet photo that allegedly showed a dress that was either black and blue or white and gold, depending on who was looking at the picture.
The latest version of that is a mysterious audio clip. Again, depending on who is listening, and through what headphones or speakers, people clearly hear the name “Laurel,” or they hear the word “Yanny,” which isn’t actually a real word.
Give it a listen below:

Scientists have multiple theories as to why people hear different things. Some attribute it to the poor quality of the original recording and to how different types of speakers affect which frequencies are heard most clearly. Others say different listeners have different sensitivities to some frequencies, and that children in particular can hear higher frequencies better.
So put your kids to the test — do they hear “Yanny” or “Laurel?” And do you hear the same thing?
